Aluminium and glazing

Aluminium doors and architectural glass

We supply and install high quality aluminium and glass systems across Kingston upon Thames and south-west London: slim-framed sliding doors, windows, frameless glazing and rooflights. Because we also build the extension around them, the opening, structure and finishes are planned together.

Why aluminium

Why aluminium suits extensions

Aluminium is strong enough to carry large panes in slim frames, so you see more glass and less frame than with timber or uPVC at the same opening size. It needs little maintenance, and modern thermally broken systems help an extension meet building regulations for insulation.

The opening needs to be planned around the chosen system: the steel above, the floor level at the threshold, drainage outside and the finishes around the frame. We coordinate these as part of the build instead of fitting the doors around them afterwards.

Regulations

Building regulations for glazing

New and replacement windows and doors must meet building regulations for thermal performance, safety glazing, ventilation and, in some rooms, means of escape. Compliance is shown either through a competent person scheme or through building control.

Official guidance: GOV.UK building regulations approval. In conservation areas and on listed buildings, changing windows can also need planning or listed building consent.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why choose aluminium over timber or uPVC?

Aluminium carries large panes in slim frames, needs little maintenance and, with modern thermally broken systems, performs well on insulation.

Should the doors be chosen before the extension is built?

Yes, ideally. The system sets the opening size, the steel above and the threshold detail, so choosing early avoids changes later.

Can you fit glazing to an existing opening?

Yes. Send photographs and approximate sizes, and we will measure and quote.

Do new windows and doors need building regulations approval?

They must meet building regulations. Compliance is shown through a competent person scheme or building control, and we confirm the route for your project.
